FREE Vex'd and FREE Nosaj Thing

Some free tunes for you to download now. First up is a tune from the Vex'd lost LP Cloud Seed, which dropped on Planet Mu last week. It features jest on the vocals and his slow rhymes perfectly compliment the darkness and chanting nature of the tune. If you haven't checked out the Cloud Seed then do so now! Darkness!

Couple of Nosaj Thing tunes from his LP Drift were given away over the last couple of weeks. His tune IOIO, which also featured on MAH's Wild Angels compilation, was given away ahead of Brainfeeder's takeover of Fabric, then Nosaj also gave away Coat Of Arms as well (my favourite tune from the LP). I assume most of you already have these and the album, but if you don't grab them below and go cop Drift as well. Still a favourite on my iPod nearly a year later!

Couple of freebies given away by Alpha Pup's newboy Take for you now. His debut LP is set to drop in April sometime, and by the sound of these two tracks it's gonna be a big release for the LA beatmaker. "Incredibright" is a piece of low slung dubstep, with an LA twist, whereas "Neon Beams" is full of synths and 8 bit samples with a sick beat. Grab them both below.

Fresh Kidz: Shlohmo

This interview and mix has been coming for a few months now, but at long last the mix dropped into my inbox this morning and put a big smile on my face. Shlohmo is another one of the new breed of LA beatmakers getting a lot of attention of late, spurred on by the international success of producers like Flying Lotus and Samiyam. His production is next level with tunes like Hot Boxing The Cockpit and Tomato Squeeze getting airplay from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, TOKiMONSTA and Flying Lotus himself. We managed to get him to do an exclusive interview and mix for us here at Disrupt:on Inc. so check out what the producer had to say below:

So for anyone who isn't familiar with you, what name do yo write under and how would you describe your sounds

I go by Shlohmo. I make beats and the like. It's hard to describe exactly, but I guess my main sonic influences are ambient sounds, field recordings, funk, soul, hip hop, and whatever else you can find in there.

What do you think of the music scene in LA? There are so many amazing producers over there the vibe must be incredible.

The vibe is immense and amazing. It's hard to leave knowing that it's really not the same anywhere else (Low End Theory!). I get asked a lot to try and describe why the scene is so localized to Los Angeles and I really cannot figure it out. There's something in the smog.

You're gaining a lot of popularity over here in the UK at the moment with support from Mary Anne Hobbs and others, any plans for a UK tour? I'd love to get you up in Leeds

Hopefully! Some buzz about gettin over there this summer at some point. Maybe a mini European tour?? Nothing's for sure yet, but hopefully all will get planned out soon.

Whose work are you really feeling at the moment? Anyone we don't know but should?

Oh man, so many cats. Really been feelin Teebs, Dak, Matthewdavid, Dem Hunger, Dimlite. Then of course my dudes Devonwho and Dibia$e, Mindesign, and Knxwledge. If you haven't heard of them before, get up! And these are some cats I know you probably haven't heard but reeeally should: Juj, Ground Is Lava, Elan, 0 (Zeroh), Jonwayne, Baths, Asura. All my dudes comin out of LA!

What are your plans for this year?

Exciting things! Workin on a 12", an EP followed by the debut LP(!), and some bits here and there. And hopefully just a lot of time to keep making what i want to make and not have to worry about hectic bullshit. That's my biggest plan.

Download the mix HERE

No tracklist for the mix as of yet. If it comes, will post it up for you guys tho! Enjoy!

Massive thank you to Shlohmo for finding the time to do this for us! As you can see, Shlohmo is definitely one to watch over the next few months and years so keep ya eyes peeled!

New bits from Yoghurt Warrior

Yoghurt Warrior created by DJ Shark Bait and Ditto is an up and coming clothing label of the underground. In the last year they have gone from strength to strength being represented by artists such as Rusko, Annie Mac, Foamo, Doorly, Trolley Snatcha, Funtcase and many more.

''Any clothing brand that calls itself “the new face of the underground” is bound to grab our attention. Mainly because we’ll just think they’re talking pure fluff. But Yoghurt Warrior are speaking the gospel''

''They are rapidly becoming the new face of the underground.''

''Yoghurt Warrior seems to be the label that’s taking the dancefloor by storm at the moment''

KP N Envi - Swing My Way (B. Bravo Remix)

His Computa Love EP dropped today I just bought it and so should you!

I wish I had stayed at uni for friday night because I was missed something truly amazing! The Donuts store put on showcase of Alexander Nut's & Floating Points' Eglo records at the Attic Bar in Bristol. Really kicking myself at missing Fatima! If you don't know then get to know because she is going to BIGGG! She's the talk of the town right now (maybe a possible collab with Mr. Theophilus?) and comparisons to Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill have been made so she is definately one to keep your eye on! Personally, her raspyness reminds of Macy Gray! You'll definately remember the song from Sa-Ra Creative Partner - Shafiq Husayn - that caused a stir last summer (always check the RBMA news to keep up!) - 'Lil Girl'. Well now men like Alex Nut & Floating Points has put out her her first solo release.

The Mindtravellin' EP features production from Dam-Funk, VeeBeeO and Funkineven. My favourite cut is the funked out Warm Eyes prod by Dam-Funk. It's full of summertime vibes so call it bbq music if you like! VERY close behind is 'Soul Glo' which simply for the 'Coming To America' reference holds my attention! It's produced by none other than Funkineven (who is at Glastonbury this year!) who keeps the formula simple - Soulful synths + soulful voice = FIRE. Check out the video below which is perfectly fitting. Make sure you Check Mr Nut's pioneering Rinse FM show every saturday from 1-3 pm.

Shafiq Husayn ft Fatima - Lil Girl

Man like Scuba is on hand for the 198th Resident Advisor podcast. In the mix he goes head to head with his newly founded SCB moniker. Review: Sabre's A Wandering Journal

I'd been looking forward to this for months, and finally Sabre's long awaited and much hyped debut long player dropped into my inbox last week. It's the first solo LP to come out on Critical and the perfect way to start with an album from one of the scene's most highly regarded producers.

Some artists it has to be said find it difficult to master the concept of the LP, turning what should be a chance to open up and express yourself production-wise into a series of 12" singles. Sabre has clearly not found this an issue. To start with, the LP's title couldn't be more fitting. It genuinely appears that Sabre has gone off wandering and through this journey has built up a collection of awe inspiring tracks. The interludes, with names such as 'Day One, 'Day Four', 'Day Fourteen', using news clips and how each track has individual artwork of photos taken by Sabre himself further heighten the sense of this LP being a journey and adventure. There is also a real hypnotic element to this album, you can't be unmoved by the emotion in this project. It's almost tangible throughout the album.

There are collaborations on there with the likes of Alix Perez, Icicle, Noisia, as well as exclusive remixes of tracks from the LP from Critical labelmates Rockwell and Stray, two of the brightest names in the scene at the moment. And it's not the bare minimum in terms on quantity either, there are two discs to the album, boasting 27 tracks in total!

It's hard to pick favourites, and with so much variation the album caters to loads of different musical minds. Having said that, standout tracks have to include 'Marvel', the first tune I had heard from the album, and still my favourite. Sabre takes us down to the depths on this one with his signature rim shots in full swing, as well as some penetrating drums. Other favourites include both of the collaborations with Alix Perez that feature on the album entitled 'Javelin' and 'Have It Your Way', 'Levelling Out Pt. 2', which is a deep skanker, and 'Ash'. The aforementioned remixes are also stand outs, providing even more variation and showcasing some of the scene's latest talent.

The variation on the album only serves to highlight Sabre's production prowess, with so many styles and sounds coming together in harmony this is definitely an early contender for album of the year, whilst the way the long player is crafted and every detail considered serves as further testament to the Critical producer. It's been a long wait for a Sabre LP, was it worth it? Definitely!

Release date: 29th March 2010
Label: Critical

K-Mag are also running a Sabre remix competition at the moment after he made a track, entitled 'One Hundred Teeth' especially for the competition. The track is available for download below (just click on the download symbol on the right of the SoundCloud player) and you can get your hands on the parts next week if you're interested in entering the competition. Check K-Mag towards the end of the month for the remix brief and some tips on how to approach remixes from Sabre himself.

Heard the song in a mix might have been Kuedo's cant remember but turns out he's acutally pretty sick! He's from Australia and makes 'wonky' hip -hop leftield called whatever you want! Exactly the kind of vibe I'm feeling right now! Maybe we'll see a collab with him and Mark Pritchard who knows...Australia isnt that big is it?

He released an ep in december called '3rd Time Lucky' and its tight! 'Somewhat' sounds like what Dr.Dre would make if he made this kind of stuff so big ups to mr Dizz1!

The whole ep is sick so make sure you part with your cash for this one! BUY IT HERE

Welcome Back

So its been a while since we heard from the duo Oxide & Neutrino nearly TEN whole years since their classic number 1 'Bound 4 dA Realod' and now they're back now with a cheeky bootleg called 'No Armour'. Caught them a Bunker last week and the place went off! Secutriy had a very hard time containing the crowd! With the whole garage 'revival' flex going on at the minute its seems like they chose the perfect time to make a comeback! This is a catchy number featuring vocals of a lady whom I'm all sure you know ;-) Looking forwarsd to hearing what they have in store for us this year so keep ya ears pricked! This isn't anywhere else yet so grab it!

dBridge's Lost Shadow

dBridge gave away his tune Lost Shadow today so happy days! The tune was supposed to be the flip of Inner Disbelief, when that was scheduled for release on Shogun, but since that didn't work out and Inner Disbelief got released on dBridge's own Exit Records the man himself has decided to give it to the masses so enjoy!

PS: Apparently since that release didn't work out dBridge still owes Friction a release on Shogun and it's in writing, so expect news on that in the future.
